The Flywheel / Development / 07 Builds
Builds
Build it one chunk at a time, and keep, change or drop each one on what happens.

The tool for this step
The Foundry
Build it one chunk at a time. Build each chunk for real, put it in front of people as soon as it can be touched, and keep, change or drop it on what happens.
What it is
Builds makes it real, one chunk at a time. Whatever does the work, people decide what is worth making and whether it worked.
There is one Foundry for the whole build, kept current. Each chunk is built at its smallest, put in front of people as soon as it can be touched, and kept, changed or dropped on what happens.
How to run it
What you produce
The Foundry: build it one chunk at a time. Build each chunk for real, put it in front of people as soon as it can be touched, and keep, change or drop it on what happens.
Examples
The sticker that stayed
The first printed batch went to the real people from the Simulator. The letter and the paper held up; the sticker was the reason several of them talked about it with friends, so it stayed, and grew into a small collectible series.
Where it goes wrong
- Building the whole thing firstA finished thing nobody has touched is a launch with a large budget.
- Letting the tools decideMachines can make almost anything. Deciding what is worth making is the human part.
- Keeping chunks out of kindnessA chunk that failed its question and survived costs more every release.
- Speed as the goalA faster build of the wrong chunk is the most expensive kind of fast.
What it hands on
The Launchpad takes the kept chunks and gets them ready to launch.
